ILS is already hard at work with postcarding, canvassing and phone banking to elect Susan Crawford, candidate for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in the general election April 1.

The ILS Elections Committee is also evaluating Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan seats that might be vulnerable. If you know of a race that we woud be interested in, send an email to lndivisiblelincolnsquare@gmail.com.

Some crucial national races to watch are Marco Rubio’s Senate seat, JD Vance’s Senate seat, Matt Gaetz’s House seat, Elise Stefanik’s House seat and Michael Waltz’s House seat.

Two gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia are scheduled for later this year.

Democrats must get on board and join us in actively opposing his administration. Democrats have to shut it down. No more allowing nominations to pass through the Senate as normal order. No more treating legislation as business as usual. We need our Senators to slow down the process of the Senate by every means they have at their disposal. This includes:

1. Opposing all nominees
2. Denying Unanimous Consent to slow Senate proceedings
3. Voting “No” on all Cloture
4. Forcing Quorum calls at every opportunity

Senator Duckworth has already pledged to not vote for any more of Trump’s nominees.

We haven’t heard the same from Senator Durbin.

Join us for an in-person rally and letter delivery at the offices of U.S. Senators Durbin and Duckworth to demand that they shut down the Trump MAGA power grab. Although the attacks are constant and far-reaching, the focus of this event is the Trump-Musk funding freeze, and the nomination vote of Project 2025 architect Russell Vought to lead OMB.

For the first two weeks of Trump’s presidency, we have seen Democrats attempt to engage in bipartisanship, going along with too many of Trump’s policies and nominations. Too many Democrats voted for Trump’s anti-immigrant bill and too many Democrats have voted for Trump’s nominees. And what’s worse, they have been largely silent in the face of Trump’s many racist, homophobic, transphobic, and xenophobic Executive Orders.

And now we are watching a massive Trump power grab unfold. Trump has signed an Executive Order shutting down federal loans and grants, power that he does not have. The power of the purse belongs with Congress and Trump is attempting to usurp their power. Following that, we’ve seen Elon Musk gain unprecedented and illegal access to the Treasury Department. This is a coup. We need our Senators to take action NOW!

In an X post dated January 29, 2025, Karoline Leavitt, White House Press Secretary states:

“This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze. It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo. Why? To end any confusion created by the court’s injunction. The President’s EO’s on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented.”

They have not given up yet and neither should we!

Let’s continue to tell our US Senators and Representatives to fight this with everything they have.

There’s much confusion and chaos surrounding this but the simple truth is that Trump wants to cut crucial funding to children, seniors, veterans and many more with an unconstitutional power-grab. All of us (voters plus elected officials) raising hell Wednesday clearly had an impact but the threat is not gone.

In addition to being targeted by the Trump administration, Chicago also falls within 100 miles of an external boundary. This allows US Customs and Border Control to conduct warrantless stops under certain conditions. The ACLU explains it all here.
